The lure of water and coastal living is what brought Alan Pacek and his family to Wilmington, North Carolina. He and his wife, Katrina, along with their daughter enjoy everything in, on, or around water, which they've found at their new home on Carolina Beach. Alan also has two adult Children who frequent the beach house especially around the holidays, a son in Pittsburgh, PA and a step-son in Bozeman, MT. Alan has always been entrepreneurial and community-minded which is a good fit for the culture of 5 Star Real Estate and the new commercial division he directs.
Upon graduation from the University of Toledo School of Law, Alan was hired to work in the Tax Department for the international accounting firm Ernst & Young, formerly Arthur Young, This provided a spring board to a private consulting practice to assist non-profit community development, commercial revitalization, and economic development agencies conceptualize and manage projects and/or events. Later, expanding the scope of services to provide training, public presentations and expertise; and to perform research and feasibility analysis; and to assist with business start-ups to individuals, small businesses, and educational institutions.
Economic development evolved to include real estate development. Alan has experience as a general contractor, with vast expertise upfitting medical offices, and revitalizing buildings in central business districts. In the mid-1980's, he worked with developers to oversee construction contracts and serve as property manager in the building, conversion, and management of office condominiums, mixed-use commercial properties, and other healthcare ventures.
In 1990, while maintaining his real estate business, Alan formed a certified rehabilitation agency and became its' Chief Executive Officer. After growing the business to serve a regional market, he sold it to a national company in 1997. Alan's real estate focus turned to the acquisition and management of distressed commercial properties in river communities surrounding Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was during this period that Alan perfected his Community-Based Asset Management philosophy to transform underperforming properties. The sale of his interest in these properties, all with better than average occupancy rates, paved the way for the family's relocation to Wilmington, NC in 2006.
Giving back to the community was a keystone to Alan’s business success in Pennsylvania and is the foundation of 5 Star Commercial Real Estate’s operation in Wilmington. Currently, Alan is an active member of the Wilmington Rotary Club, Co-Chair of Rotoract for Southeastern North Carolina Rotary District 7730, and is advisor to Rotaract Clubs at both Cape Fear Community College (CFCC) and University of North Carolina at Wilmington (UNCW). Alan is a member of the Government Affairs Committee of the Greater Wilmington Chamber of Commerce; the Realtors Commercial Alliance of South Eastern North Carolina (RCASENC); and the Property Management Council of the Wilmington Regional Association of Realtors (WRAR).
At his home on Pleasure Island, Alan has leadership roles in government appointed, as well as civic and public-private partnerships. Alan is Vice-Chair of the Pleasure Island Chamber of Commerce, and Chairman of the Business and Economic Development Committee of the Town of Carolina Beach. Both groups are packaging incentives to attract year-round business to Carolina Beach, NC. In addition, Alan serves as President of the Pleasure Island Foundation for a Sustainable Community which is an island wide initiative fostering cooperation and growth between Carolina Beach, Kure Beach, and Fort Fisher; and is the charitable entity under which the Boardwalk Makeover Project operates. While working to grow 5 Star Real Estate's Commercial Division, Alan is always looking for ways that he and the Company are able to be a resource to protect, sustain and enhance the quality of life in and around Wilmington.
